Zeynep Öktem

As a kültüř gemma! Fellow at Tanzquartier Wien, Zeynep Öktem Apschner proposed to work on the meaning-making process of migrants' dance productions and on the influence of Tanzquartier Wien in Vienna's public space.

Originally from Istanbul, Zeynep Öktem Apschner recently moved to Vienna. She has a long-standing interest and passion for the performing arts, especially dance. Zeynep has danced herself and has been involved in dance research with various choreographers and in the Netherlands. Zeynep studied sociology and psychology in Istanbul and Vancouver. She then completed her Master's degree in Media and Performance Studies at Utrecht University (NL) in 2014. Her final thesis focused on flashmobs as critical social choreographies. In her thesis she placed flashmobs at the intersection of performance, politics and activism.
