Sanela Stanković
Sanela Stanković's project deals with the dominant theme in 2020, COVID 19. The images have political statements as backgrounds and are drawn in manga style. The images reflect Stanković's experiences and feelings during the first lockdown in the spring of 2020, as well as her hopes for the future. The manga drawings address a variable personal as well as political issues, such as gender, homosexuality, racism, marginalization, empowerment and emancipation.
Sanela Stanković was born in 1985 and has been drawing since she was five years old. She is part of a minority and has been artistically engaged with issues of minority and discrimination from an early age due to her assigned position and exclusion in society. She is on the board of the association Vivaro-Viva Romnja (lat. "There live the Roma women"), the first Roma women association in Austria, founded in 2015/2016 by members of the community. The association advocates for the fight against discrimination, racism, antiziganism and sexism. As a former resident of a community building in the fifth district, she was able to present her works in the community building in 2012 as part of an artistic project by Wohnpartner. In 2019, she fulfilled her dream by designing the exhibition "diversity*-Manga" at Werk 5.
