Texts have a powerful influence on public perception and the public frame of reception, as they can make certain positions visible and leave others invisible. Printed texts, in particular, are commonly seen as important mediators of knowledge. However, these mediations of knowledge often occur at the expense of positions that are outside the norm, especially in relation to race, gender, and sexuality. In order to contest these un/visibilities, the presentation is based on a broader understanding of what text is and how text and language function that goes beyond a narrowly defined textual, literal level. Accordingly, text and language are also worked with from a visual perspective and strategies from the field of conceptual art are employed.

Nicole Alecu de Flers, born in 1977, moved from Berlin to Vienna in 2004. After several years in political science research, she founded the queer-feminist publishing house Zaglossus with Katja Langmaier in 2010, which she has been running ever since.

The goal of Zaglossus is to publish books that give expression to the heterogeneous realities in our societies by identifying existing mechanisms of exclusion, disrupting them, and finding new forms of expression and narratives. To date, Zaglossus has published 49 books that have won numerous prizes and scholarships, including a prize as one of the most beautiful books in Austria, an appreciation prize from the City of Vienna, several appreciation prizes from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Nicole Alecu de Flers also teaches at various universities with a focus on gender studies, queer studies, postcolonial studies and offers seminars on the development of research projects and writing workshops.
