Chui Yong Jian

Chui Yong Jian is a film and media artist from Singapore. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. His final project explores the remnants of colonial history in contemporary Singapore. In 2009, he received an award at the Singapore International Film Festival.

His project “A re-staging of the Congress of Vienna” takes up the 200th anniversary of this historically powerful event. Together with political activists, Chui Yong Jian plans a re-staging of the Congress of Vienna in the form of a video installation. The work will trace continuities from imperialism and colonialism to contemporary capitalism. The racist bureaucratic efforts of the borders drawn in 1814 are to be unmasked in the present.
